Michael Clark A trained horticulturist with a degree in agriculture, Michael feels a strong sense of responsibility for the natural world and its interconnections. He advocates composting, recycling, rainwater collection, and "living lightly" on the land.
Michael is a co-founder and past president of the Santa Fe Botanical Garden and is still an active member.
Michael's background includes growing up in New York City, working in the plant maintenance business when young, receiving a degree in agriculture in Tennessee, moving to Santa Fe and managing landscaping projects for La Posada Hotel and Sunrise Springs Resort.
He was a manager at Jackalope before opening his own greenhouse there and additionally operated Victoria Cacti and Orchids in Sanbusco Center for five years.
Tropic of Capricorn
Michael and his wife Victoria, a delivery room nurse for over 25 years, conceptualized the new business and Tropic of Capricorn opened on Mother’s Day in May of 2002. Tropic of Capricorn encompasses Michael and Victoria’s shared aesthetic and a love of plants, art, beauty, design and community. Their sons, Gavin and Ciaran, have both been involved in the opening of the store and in day to day operations.
Tropic of Capricorn stocks a sizable selection of orchids, cacti, succulents and large tropicals as well as a varied assortment of outdoor patio and landscaping plants.
Tropic of Capricorn sponsors events that address community concerns and happenings and teaches free classes on horticulture and landscaping each month. He also invites guest speakers to share their expertise on a wide variety of topics.
Tropic of Capricorn features art exhibits by local artists each month. Michael Clark supports nonprofit organizations through donations, as well as offering use of the space for meetings, events and benefits.
